Academic Accomplishments:
ACCREDITATION — ECHS received a six-year term of accreditation in June 2007 by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE INDEX (API) — ECHS gained 17 points on its 2011 growth API, according to results released by the California Department of Education for the 2010-2011 school year. The 2011 growth API is 850, compared to the 2010 base API of 833. The API is a number that ranges from 200 to 1000 and is calculated from the results on state-mandated tests. The state has set 800 as the API target for schools to meet.
SIMILAR SCHOOLS/STATE RANKING — ECHS’s 2010 Similar Schools Ranking is six. The Similar Schools Ranking compares ECHS to 100 demographically matched schools in California. ECHS’s 2010 Statewide Ranking is nine. The Statewide Ranking of nine means that the school has an API that is in the top 20% of all high schools in the state. Rankings for 2011 will be released in 2012.
CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL EXIT EXAM (CAHSEE) — Students take the CAHSEE for the first time in March of their sophomore year. In March 2011, 98% of 10th graders taking the English-language arts portion of the test passed, and 92% passed the mathematics portion.
SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST (SAT) — ECHS students scored higher in every section of the SAT when compared to the state average. Students in the class of 2011 earned the following mean scores on the SAT:
Critical Reading: 532 (State average: 499)
Mathematics: 538 (State average: 515)
Writing: 517 (State average: 499)
