Bob and Marion are supportive of educational excellence and of efforts to instruct our youth about our nation’s history. We are definitely blessed to be the recipients of their financial support. Their donation gives our “Dollar-A-Day Club” a tremendous start.

Students Donate Goods to U.S. Marines
U.S. Marines will receive homemade cookies from the Traditional Classroom Program at Escondido Charter High School for Valentine’s Day. The delivery of homemade goodies is an extension of Operation Thank You, a charity donation drive sponsored by Key Club and started by English teacher, Mrs. Childs, two years ago.
Homemade cookies were delivered to Mrs. Childs over a two-day period and were shipped out on Thursday, Jan. 18. “The holidays are very difficult for the marines to be away from home,” TCP teacher Mrs. Childs said.
Last Thanksgiving, U.S. Marines stationed in Afghanistan received 63 care packages filled with toiletries and non-perishable snacks from Escondido Charter High School students. HM2 Micah Schnarr and his company have been the recipients of these care packages for the last year. Students collected donated items for more than a month at the school.
"It's great that students show gratitude to those who serve in our armed forces," Traditional Classroom Program Director Mr. Roner said.
The Key Club collected all of the donated supplies, publicized all the events for Operation Thank You, and organized packaging events where students filled out customs forms; packaged and decorated the boxes.
The boxes were sent out from Escondido on Nov. 3, and totaled nearly $820 in shipping costs. The total was covered by an anonymous parent donor.
The Marines showed their appreciation by writing and sending thank-you letters to the school. “Thank you for taking the time to send us care packages and letters,” Lance Corporal Aaronn Richter wrote. “You don’t realize how far such a simple gesture goes; how much it means to us.”
Last school year, Operation Thank You donated 85 packages and held fundraisers to pay for the $1,065 shipping cost.
Even though Schnarr will not be overseas this time next year, Mrs. Childs still wants to see Operation Thank You continue. "It would be beneficial to both the military and us to continue Operation Thank You in the future," she said.

Interested in Enrollment?
All students entering ILP are given a placement test in reading and mathematics to determine if they have the basic skills necessary to be successful in an individualized learning environment. Students who fall below this threshold are further evaluated on an individual basis. This evaluation often utilizes standardized testing data such as STAR scores, California High School Exit Exam scores, academic history, and/or a pre-enrollment conference.
